They are making major changes to a thoroughfare one street over from my condo building. It's been on the drawing board for years. It will be completed - my guess - in about a decade. This weekend starts one of the major phases. For the next 10 days - one week and two weekends - they will close a big section of it.

One rather large residential section will have their major path to downtown and other parts of town cut off. A 10 day inconvenience. Not the end of the world. The hysteria connected to the project has reached hysterical heights.

For a town this size it amazes me how little local news gets reported. Rather we get 2 or 3 news stories massacred in over coverage - day after day after day. This morning news helicopters hovered over the soon to be closed (for only 10 fucking days) highway to show what it will not look like on Monday. They were there for more than an hour and a half.

On the bight side, the section of highway being demolished is a section of our viaduct - raised road running parallel to Elliot Bay. On Saturday, they are allowing people to walk up there... [livejournal.com profile] machupicchu and I - and our cameras - are going to take advantage of this very cool opportunity. I can't wait.

I heard back from Sheri and she's coming over on Monday or Tuesday to look at the project and discuss. I have idea photos gathered (a lesson that I learned from [livejournal.com profile] fj long ago) and a list of things not to forget to mention. Following through with actually doing it all depends on what she comes up with in terms of design, costs and schedule.

The design has to be magnificent. She can do it. I've got lots of examples in this very condo to prove it. What is there now - desk and credenza and wall unit - isn't horrible. I'd love something magnificent instead but it's not worth doing for something just 'good' or even 'great'.

I'm ok with spending some bucks on the project but only if I get magnificent and lighting. (This side of the living room has always been a dark hole. I want overhead - recessed or track - lights. If that's not part of the deal then I'm not doing the deal. I have three lamps over here now and I want them all gone.)

And schedule. When and how long. The when is not so important but the how long is critical. Sheri has a tendency to drag a project out. Not going to happen this time. It should be able to be done in a week or less total. Remove furniture, patch and paint (if necessary), install lighting, put new furniture in. We're only talking about a corner of one room here. They do whole houses on HGTV in 30 minutes. :)

I'm willing to walk away from this - so good design, plan and budget - or nothing.

My breakfast sandwich experiment is a total win.

The scrambled egg over bacon, topped with cheese in between two toasted english muffins is the most successful. The previously frozen (then thawed) tasted as fine as the never frozen. Nuke for one minute only. (Any longer and the muffin gets really tough.)

The eggs/bacon baked in a muffin tin worked out fine but had the texture of more like a hardboiled egg and I liked the scrambled better. I'll bet, however, I could break the yoke and stir it up a bit once it's in the muffin tin and that would be better. I may try that again.

I think I'll pop into the grocery today and pick up some more english muffins and maybe see if I can find some precooked sausage patties to mix it up a bit. The bacon worked great and I always have already cooked bacon the the freezer for bacon emergencies.

Swimming on my own today (no class). I'm thinking probably 11ish.

When Prometheus gave fire to mankind, he was sentenced by Zeus to eternal torment.

Next time the gods brought us a gift from the heavens, they got it right and gave us English-muffin breakfast sandwiches (http://www.timhortons.com/ca/en/menu/breakfast-sandwich.html)...

Thanks for mentioning about today being the start of the closure of the viaduct for 9 days while they tear out the southern portion of it before reopening the northern portion to the Battery St tunnel that'll remain open during the tunnel construction to ease traffic congestion through downtown at least.

I mention this as I hadn't realized today was the day and was thinking of heading to Ballard to get my truck's tabs in the morning but now that I think on it, I think I'll go grab them NOW while traffic is OK, knowing from experience when they've shut down Mercer St exit and have shut down the 520 floating bridge and traffic through town is decidedly worse.

Then I can just leave the old beast until next week when I take it out again, like to work when I don't take the bus in.

When you get a lot of inspiration pictures (doesn't have to just be of what you want, but also style, feeling, colors, which can include pictures of objects, wallpapers, paintings, fashion, lifestyles, etc) and put them all on a sheet of paper, it's called a "moodboard". Now you know.
