Today is just a regular day. I got a lot done this morning but this afternoon I'm kind of in wait mode. I have a big deal that has to be done by 4 p.m. tomorrow but I can't get started until I get the goods from the next guy who, so far, hasn't ponied up. So I wait.

Comcast (my Mom's ISP) is having mail problems again. This happens about every six weeks and the drill is always the same. For the first 12 hours, her SMTP is fine and the POP is kaput. So she sends out mail and gets none back. But, she also gets no error messages.

Then they take down mail all together. This is where she gets hosed. She uses Outlook Express and when there's no mail server out there to poll, OE throws up a box with the user name/password filled in and gives one the impression that one or both of these is wrong. The correct action is OK or Cancel. But, no, Mom has to change the user name and password both. And, since she has no idea what either of them are, she just makes shit up.

Then, of course, when mail comes back up, she's toast. But, by now, I'm on to her. So I keep checking via PCAnywhere and fix the problem and fire up her Notepad and leave her a note right on her screen telling her NOT to change anything - just click OK or Cancel. Usually we have to do this dance 2 or 3 times before she actually gets it.

I think, now, her email is back and good again. I hope anyway.

My boss's husband, for whom I did that stupid one page website several weeks ago, gave me a wonderful Mariners fleece jacket. Of course, I had to exchange it for one that was big enough to fit over my big ass but the Mariners Team Store was very cool about it and now I have a wonderful new jacket - perfect weight for this time of year. Fun.

And... thanks to Joy, my webcam page problems are history. The images load and refresh as designed now.

Oh and I did eat up some time this afternoon ordering new books. I have a fairly ferocious reading habit. When I finish a book, I have to have the next one ready to read. And, I finish at least one a week. Lately, I've hit a dry spell where little I pick up is even worth finishing.

So I did some digging and found some likely suspects and ordered up the ones I could find for $1.00 or less... I'm trying to cut down on spending...
