start/stop/start/stop/start...
Nov. 8th, 2011 09:33 amFor the past couple of years I've worked on a large section of a big website. I'll call it section Z (so I don't have to lock this entry down). That work kind of dwindled to nothing and I picked up a new project - section H.
A couple of weeks ago section Z came back with a request for a couple of weeks' worth of work. 2-5 weeks actually. Starting yesterday. I spent a day swapping emails and explaining and promising that Section H would still get first dibs on my time and I would work extra hours to make sure that everything got done, yadda yadda, everyone happy.
Then last week we got a note that the kickoff meeting for the work that was supposed to start yesterday was today. We just had that meeting and now it appears that the work will not start at all before the 16th or 17th and maybe not even then.
So... all that extra work and those extra hours - just melted away to nothing.
As it turns out, I'm perfectly fine either way. And, I now see the scope of the work and it's no big deal. Easy to do and rather enjoyable, actually. So if/when it hits, it will be fine and dandy.
So all the work I expected to have to do this week is now poof - gone and replaced by ... well ... not much, actually!
