Last night was one half great sleep and one half coughing, gasping, wheezing, wondering what in the house would be the best tool to use to slit my wrists. This morning wasn't much better but now it is easing off some, thankfully.

After yesterday, I thought maybe I had pulled the trigger on contacting the doctor again too soon. That maybe I was getting better at long last. Wrong. So I just now called the doctor's office to make sure they got the fax (I used a one time internet fax service that I had never used before) and they did. Now I wait. I'm calling back if I haven't heard by mid-afternoon.

Right now - 9:45 - I feel like if I don't have to do any heavy lifting of any kind and can stay still, I'll be fine. So that's the plan.

Steve, the handyman should show up in a couple of hours. I'm probably going to skip swimming partially because I don't want to be away from the phone and partially because of the stay still plan.

I have work work to do so that's good.

It's a windy, rainy, chilly day outside. The Tree That I Hate is playing strip poker with the wind and losing!! Yeah!! I can see most of the parking lot now. If today's wind keeps up, that damn tree could be naked by Tuesday. I need to rake leaves off my terrace. Which is fine by me.

Time for me to get back to work!

I know I keep telling you this but maybe you need to keep hearing it: you gotta be strong and you gotta be patient. Sharon has had her cough (which behaves pretty much identically to yours) for four months now. Don't give up!

Don't say such things. Not even in jest, dear.

What has happened with Sharon -- and has happened with her before -- and possibly is happening with you now -- is that she coughed for so long that she has irritated her throat tissues. And the irritation makes her cough. Which irritates it more. You see the issue. She's not sick as in “full of bacteria”, so there's nothing to cure.

What she needs to do is A) apply treatments that soothe the throat irritation and B) rest her throat as much as possible -- meaning no talking, no exertion to cause her to do that raspy breathing, etc.

She's trying A), but her problem is that she can't take the time off work to do B) because when she's on the job she has to talk.

If it IS even partly throat irritation, cough drops (or heck, hard candies!) might help. And lots of hot drinks (tea, coffee, hot chocolate, cider, whatever you love).

It's also possible that your lungs are irritated and/or you've triggered asthma, but if so your doctor should be able to figure that out and that CAN be treated.
