Swimming class was fair. It started out fine and I'm really glad I went but after about 30 minutes, I started coughing so I got out and came home. I had the conference call anyway and then the closing and work in between so it was fine. And I have not coughed since!

I think I'm a hypochondriac. I feel better already and I have barely taken any of the miracle drugs he gave me yesterday. Maybe this whole thing is my head tricking out my lungs. OR my concentrated effort NOT to cough is really working.

Citimotgage kept leaving me voice mails about my closing at 2 pm today. It was scheduled for 2:30. Then about an hour before they thought it was scheduled they left a voice mail with final refinance numbers. The first number in the voicemail was the total loan amount and it was $50k off. Yep. The rest of the numbers were exactly like the Good Faith Estimate. No time to climb their telephone tree and sit in it waiting for them to get on the line so I said fuck it.

The notary public - Ditz o' The Year - called me at 2:15 about parking. She told me her name but I could never understand what she was saying. I told her the parking options. She finally got here about 2:40 and the story changed completely.

First of all her name is Queena - never heard that name in my life and I kinda like it.

And while she may be a total loser at directions/parking info/mapquest, I'm guessing it's because she saving her brain cells for closing organization. She turned out to be a closing rock star. No Shit.

She had her papers all organized and ready and she did not fool around and knew exactly what she was doing - answered any question I had cleanly and easily and concisely. She checked and rechecked her stuff. Her papers showed the correct amount and she allowed as how she did not have a spare $50K for me.

She turned out to be nice and pleasant and efficient. I signed a basicillion papers, got my copies and she was out the door in 25 minutes. A M A Z I N G.

My mortgage goes from 30 years (with 22 left) to 15. My payment goes up 5%. Out of pocket cost was $485 but I get a refund of $287. And no mortgage payment at all for December.

Not a bad deal after all. If I had to do it again, I probably would. Nice that the best part was at the end. It left a nice taste in my mouth about the whole thing.

Still... I wouldn't have minded that spare $50k.

I'd give at least some of the credit to the drugs. Prednisone is a hard-hitter, and one that takes effect *quickly*. When my allergies were at their worst, and my parents were alive (living in the country, near hay fields, with cats and dust), I had a prescription for 10 mg of prednisone once a day on an as-needed basis to knock back allergy attacks.

And while it was best taken in advance of known exposures (like my parents' house), it would get my allergy symptoms under control in a matter of an hour or two even if they were really bad.

Not that it was fixing the problem, just suppressing the symptoms, but I will take effective symptom suppression happily when I really need it!
