I think the main thing that bothers me most about the Occupy Wall Street people is their amazingly inflated and misplaced (at least in my opinion) sense of entitlement.

Date: 2011-11-23 08:23 pm (UTC)I do agree with the goals I'm seeing from them.
I do think that we need more support for education, so people might have to take out some loans, but not the crushing piles of debt they end up with, and we certainly shouldn't be privileging that debt so that it can't be gotten rid of, even in a bankruptcy.
I think we need to revisit the policies that make earning money by just moving money and making bets on financial outcomes so lucrative, and find ways to make it more lucrative to make something, or provide some non-financial service.
For about 30 years, we've been saying "what will make America great is each individual person trying to be wealthy, so let's make sure that we're good to the rich" Well, in those 30 years, we've seen that the working class keeps getting ground down, slowly.
I'm not as concerned about Occupy Wall Street, as in, the collection of people that are having their pictures taken or marching here or there. But I'm very concerned about the things that generated the movement.

Plus, I see my juri-rigged g+LJ sharing script is working again after taking a couple of weeks off. Nice.

Date: 2011-11-24 02:39 am (UTC)You're going to hear a wide spectrum of opinions on this subject, including some misguided remarks on the right and left. I believe that in this area, as in many, people need to leave aside the personal qualities of the participants and stay focused on the issues. Any time I see a political discussion start focusing on personalities instead of issues, it quickly fails.
In other words, no one should be picking on you.
