The Clueless
May. 14th, 2002 02:37 pmYears ago - 1995 to put a point on it - I had my own business creating web pages. It was in the early days. Browsers were way stupid and it was easy peasy. My biggest problem was dealing with clients who were clueless. I enjoy helping people who are help-able but I have no patience for those who wallow in and proudly declare: 'I don't know anything about [fill in the blank]' and then ask for your help. For free.
My manager who is wonderful recently asked me to help her husband with his new business. He first needed an inventory database that worked with QuickBooks. Her plan was that I would create one. I quickly found several sources for add-on software that one could purchase to do the job and sent the information on considering my job done.
Then they wanted a webpage. She asked if I would do a simple one page website and I said sure. I made up 8 samples and posted them so they could see. Then her husband's partner today emailed me that they wanted a 'simple' website with a database and some forms and maybe some Flash on the front page. Right. I sent him an email and reiterated my willingness to upload one of the 8 pages I had created and suggested that they needed to hire a webmaster who had the time and skills they need to do the rest.
I think I'm on a slippery slope here.
