Wonderful Surprise
Jul. 6th, 2002 08:38 amThis morning's paper announced that a Krispy Kreme shop is coming to a location less than a mile from me!!! This is such excellent news. I have a long and happy history with Krispy Kreme.
I grew up in the town where Mr. Rudolph invented Krispy Kreme. The Rudolphs weren't exactly family friends but the town was small then. His daughter, Patsy, was my counselor at camp and his son, Carver, was my date to the 6th grade Patrol Boys Skating Party. When I turned 16, one of my first driving duties was to take my brother and sister to Krispy Kreme for breakfast on the way to Sunday School.
I moved away and never even heard the name for years. I heard the occassional reference now and again but that was it until about 7 years ago when they started popping up in the news. They got to New York City and the world discovered them. When the company had their initial public offering, I wanted to buy stock. I called my financial guy who told me 1) donuts??!!! 2) never buy a stock during the first 90 days. So I opened up an Ameritrade account and bought my 15 shares. (Which have now split to 60.)
For several years, the closet shop was Las Vegas. I went. It was heaven.
Then they came to the Northwest. There is one lone shop in a suburb about 20 miles from here. The lines are always long but occassionally someone will bring some into the office or a friend will bring me some if they are in the area. But come this Spring, they will be within walking distance. Yahoo!!!!!!!
