Sum of Saturday Morning
Jul. 13th, 2002 10:27 amIt's quarterly report time and I got statements from my investments this week as well as from the trust that Daddy set up for Mom to live on after he died (I'm the trustee). How depressing. On the upside, it's nice to know that two years ago we were rich and without any garish spending of any kind, we're now a lot less richer. But, complaining about investment downturns is kind of like complaining about income tax. At least we have investments like at least we have income.
Mom loves to watch the nits of finance. She spends hours on investment websites looking at various companies and their financial information. We have a wonderful firm managing the trust. They are perfect for Mom. They treat her like a queen and never talk down to her. They pay all her bills as well as manage the trust. But, they are small and very luddite. They offer no online service and their quarterly statement is a fat wad of paper with only the bare, essential information. So every quarter I take their fat wad of paper and enter all the information into MoneyCentral so Mom can watch it along with her stocks and other stuff. She loves it and checks it a couple of times a day. It's a once a quarter headache but she gets such a kick out of it that it's worth it.
And, now it's done and I don't have to screw with it for another 3 months.
We had a nice cloudy morning which kept the heat down but the sun is now out and the gloves are off and it's warming up considerably. I'm so grateful for my air conditioner. I have an indoor/outdoor thermometer clock. I just glanced at it and noticed the outside temperature is 106. OK, so yesterday when I moved the sensor, I obviously picked the wrong place. It's never been 106 in Seattle. I've just moved it again - out of full sunlight. Just seeing the numbers 106 under temperature makes me want to go down to the basement and hide out.
