Look Ma, No Wires!
Jul. 25th, 2002 04:36 pmThe wireless card arrived today. I plugged it into my little IPAQ and ran down the street to find a network. Then I walked back to the office to find the IT guy. Asked a few questions, tried again. I know a little spot in a park down the street that has a wireless network beamed to it. No go. I know a coffee shop that has a wireless network a couple of blocks from here... TADA! I'm in!
My previous experience with IPAQ on the web and with email has been at 14 baud. This is a way different deal. I first tried a web page and then I thought I'd flip over to see how long it took me to download email. My email was already downloaded! Very cool.
I have some kinks yet to work out. I can see networks a lot of places (the garage of my condo; the front room of my condo; the corner up a block) but I can't get in. I'm doing something wrong. But, it sure is fun to play. I do love new toys. Next is going to be a wireless network of my own. I have my home PC and I have an old laptop that I loaned a friend coming home next month. My current plan is to set up a little network of the PC, the laptop and the IPAQ. I learn about this stuff so much better by doing it and it's so so satisfying when it all works.
Otherwise, I actually did manage to get a few things done today work-wise-speaking... But, overall, I can't say that this week has been one of my most productive.
Tomorrow is another one of my half Fridays... happy happy
