Ok first a note from our sponsor. You guys just rock - thanks so much for all your notes and comments. I especially like [livejournal.com profile] emjaybaxter's idea of giving his pooch a hug for Mom tonight. That's a real cool pay it forward.

I have a feeling that there are going to be a lot of Mom Updates in the coming days since it makes me feel better to post progress... so I'll try to give you warning with the subject so you can just zip on by if you are tired of the update tedium. Oh wait... I'll find a special icon for the entries.

Anyway...

I called Mom's regular doctor's office hoping that the office people may have heard something. They put me right through to her doctor who is a crack up. He's been genuinely surprised that she's even alive for months now. And he's really scratching his head today. He said that she looked great when he saw her this morning. She was pissed that she didn't have a phone but otherwise she was good. He says he plans to give her more blood thinning medication - she's already taking so much, I can't imagine she's got more than a pint of whole blood in her but what do I know???

He said that it's not his call (apparently she has another doctor for this excitement) but he's thinking she'll be locked up there for a day or two. He said he'd hate to see her stay longer because 'hospitals can really make you sick'... This guy is good.

I called Libba who hadn't heard anything and hadn't been to the hospital to check. I told her what I knew.

My brother and his wife decided to go tomorrow regardless. They will be there at 3. I am very glad they are going. I am sorry I can't ask Mom if it's ok with her but decisions gotta be made here.

I really would like to hear from Mom but, hey, can't have everything. Her doctor thinks they will let him know if something goes wrong or downhill. And he'll let me know. I just hope she has a TV and the US Open is on it. Or she has a book.

I am so glad you Mama is better. I love reading the stories about her. I can't imagine a hospital without a phone in every room in this day and age. Surely she has a TV and etc.

Not in the ICU. She probably has a TV, though. At least that's the way it was in Bryn Mawr Hospital when my mother was there a couple of years ago.

Wow, you're Mom is astounding strong! And if she's in ICU and feels good enough to be concerned about not having a phone, that's nice to hear. he he he
And being pissed about anything, another plus!

Most patients in the Intensive Care aren't well enough to even talk on the phone, much less be pissed about not having one.

And don't worry about the blood thinning medication. That's the stuff I've been on during the last year (almost) Thinning the blood is a good thing when clots tend to form.

My best thoughts for your Mom, you and your brother and his wife, and Libba, who's lucky to have you for updates. (oh and to the doctors and nurses...bet they're enjoying their fiesty patient!)

Thinking of you

Oh, Mom, all our good vibes are ocming your way! I hope she's OK - and that you're OK too, especially as you're having to find out what's going on in such a long-disance way. Get well soon, Mom!

Well, this sounds at least moderately encouraging. I hope she continues to improve and gets to go home soon.

Oh my. Been living at work and logged in tonight to catch up and saw this. I haven't read back yet to get the details, but from this I know you have had a real time over the last few days. I'm sending good wishes out to you and your mom and hope she continues to get better! *big hug*
