Ok, so most people would assume that stopping smoking might cause a little stress. But, then, most people don't smoke anyway. It has been a generally sucky day but I think the not smoking has contributed a bit to the suction. I did go home about 2:30 and had 2 drags and enjoyed them and tossed the rest of the cigarette. I felt guilty but it did help the craving. Back at my desk and now, after2 hours the craving isn't back. I did draft some rules. If I'm going to cheat, I must do nothing else during the time I am puffing. And I must go outside - on the terrace is fine but not in the house. And a whole cigarette isn't necessary.

One of the guys here at work today told me I was like a very strict school teacher. I like to know the rules and I like to stay within the rules and I'm pretty darned intolerant of anyone who doesn't go by the rules. As much as I hate to admit it, he's totally right. Isn't that just icky? He said I would make a good Dad (this from a guy who has two kids 11 and 8 and is freshly separated from their mother - me thinks 'his' weekends with the kids might be a little stressful)....

Several people have remarked that the cost of cigarettes had factored into their own decisions to quit. My first pack of cigarettes costs me $.20. A carton was $2.00 This was in the mid-60's and in North Carolina. Today I live in Seattle. A single pack of Virginia Slims costs about $7.50. I've been buying online from a very nice place in South Carolina for years now - $30 a carton. My outlay is $45 a month. [livejournal.com profile] kjaz gave me a pretty creative idea. I think I'm going to get $45 cash and keep it someplace obvious and add to it every month and use it for something silly and frivolous.
