When I gave up smoking last Fall, you guys all mentioned in your lists of benefits, fewer colds and upper respiratory illnesses. I secretly scoffed at this because I only get a cold every five years or so and I've never had an upper respiratory illness.

Well, six months later I got my second cold in two years and today I am getting another one!!! WTF??!! I'm thinking smoking may have some preventative qualities that no one is talking about... I do have that Zicam spray that everyone on LJ recommended this time and it had better work or you guys are in so much trouble.

Went to Costco this morning - I was there when they opened with a short list. First of all I have to say that being there when they opened the doors on Saturday or Sunday has been my MO since forever. And usually, there are about a dozen people there with me. Today there were about 4 dozen... I want to know who told??!!

My short list included that lobster that I've been jonesin' for a while. The lobster booth was gone! I spotted a meat guy and asked him when they would have lobster again and he said he had frozen tails and I said great - I'll take one. He said he'd be right back. I got the rest of my list and was at the front of the store when he found me and said that my tail was waiting for me back in butcher - he was obviously going on break. I got back to butcher and they had all gone on break except one guy way in the back. He spotted me and immediately gave me the high sign.

I have on my orange LJ t-shirt and I could just hear the first guy 'she's the old fat lady with this really orange T-Shirt on...' Anyway, he came out with a lobster tail the size of a small ham!!! He said, that it was the smallest they could find. $40. He said if I could wait, they were having a seafood special event next weekend and would have a big selection. I thanked him and said I could sure wait.

Off to check out. And those four dozen people were all checking out, too! I looked at the line. I looked at the stuff in my basket, I realized that I could get by without all of it until next week and since I had to come back anyway... Ditched the cart.

And that's how I got out of Costco for free!!!!

Home now - it's hot. A/C is on full blast. I am grateful. I may well grab my camera and wander over across the way to the International District this afternoon. They are having their annual festival this weekend and it might be fun to catch a bit of it. Unless it's just too hot...

Stay tuned. The thrills never end here.

I can't help you on the smoking thing, but I'm kinda glad you aren't having lobster today, because the way you describe your culinary delights, I'd be out looking for lobster too, and I don't want to do that today.
Wow, your Costco had a lobster bar? I guess different area Costco's carry different items (as we know from the egg roll thing)
Congratulations on getting out of Costco FREE! I've never been there as the doors opened, but my little 96-year old neighbor is always there at a store, or doctor's appointment or restaurant as the door's open. Not me, I'd rather wait and not be there in the "door-buster's" rush. Now, I have been in line in some stores when they've closed the doors. Late shopping also has it's merits. :)
I'll wait for your lobster report for next weekend!
What's on the Netflix schedule? I saw "Unfaithful" the other night. Thought-provoking.

Hey were of to Wally mart in a sce. Maybe we'll try the [livejournal.com profile] susandennis method of saving money by shopping for free . . .

Talking of saving money, I actually think that stopping smoking is way over-rated in terms of feeling better, etc., and lack of colds. I stopped about the same time as you and can report none of these benefits. On the other hand, I have saved a pile of money - which I could have done by shoping the Susuan way - and also felt incredibly smug about myself

I quit smoking 7 years ago. It took 5 years to actually feel like I would make it.

I don't feel any better, but with the money I saved, I bought a Buick.

Smoking is a terrible addiction.

Babette's Feast is my favorite movie of all time!

ZICAM-wise . . use it the MINUTE you start feeling "coldish"!! It might not stop the cold . . but you shouldn't get nearly as sick as you did last time! My second best "remedy" when it comes to colds is CHEWABLE Vitamin C (500 mg, if you can find them). Don't chew . . suck on them! Works great for allergies too! Helps with sore throats and drainage.

It could be imagination. Wonder what Zicam does for that?

We can hope it brings on AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMS without the need for expensive herb-ish (for lack of a better word!) paraphernalia!
