It was my usual Friday afternoon. The plan was to come home and wait for my friend, Sherry to call. She has an old 15 inch monitor she's going to donate to the computer lab with my computer but I wanted to borrow it for the computer transition. She has Friday's off so we were going to meet up this aft.

But, when I got home, the monitor was on the table in my hall! Job done and Sherry off to play golf.

Here I was with nothing on the agenda and no place I had to be. So I went downtown.

Seattle has a very cool bus tunnel. Cut through the middle of town, under the street, is a tunnel for busses that has 4 stops. The first one, at the south end of downtown is across the parking lot from my condo. Plus, the busses downtown are all free. So I can walk across the parking lot and get on a bus and get to the middle of town in 5 mins for free.

The four tunnels are all decorated with the most wonderful artwork - each with that particular stop in mind. My stop is the International District and the tunel art has a distinct Asian flavor. I got off at Westlake Center which is in the heart of the shopping district and the artwork there reflects the merchantile industry.

When I first moved to Seattle in 1992, I worked about a mile from here in the center of town. I took the free bus every morning and generally walked home every afternoon. And during lunch I wandered around mid-town. I left that job in 1994 and haven't spent a lot of time down there since.

They've made some changes. I had no idea we had a Coldwater Creek store. In fact, I thought Coldwater Creek was just a catalog I didn't know they had stores anywhere. There are a lot of stores downtown that I didn't know we had here.

I wandered around like a tourist. It was great fun. Then I wandered down to the Pike Place Market. Seattle is loaded wiht tourists all of the time and you can find most of them at the Pike Place Market. It's kind of fun to see them and hear what makes them point and squeal and be interested.

I walked home from the market and thought that if I didn't live here I sure would wantt to move here. It's a beautiful, interesting place and I am very lucky to be here.

And I didn't buy one single thing. I was kind of looking for something trashy and touristy that says Seattle to take wiht me to LA next weekend but I never did find that perfect thing. Oh well. I can always shop at the airport.
