An open invitation
Nov. 19th, 2002 04:47 pmI just got a document via our building management company entitled Security Alert. It's all about how there have been break-ins through out the 'downtown area' (which is a pretty broad stroke if they are including us - about 5 square miles). The message is that people have been breaking into buildings to get into cars to get garage door openers.
Ok, so if you broke into the building and are in the garage, why in the fuck would you want to steal the opener to the door??? Why not just steal the car??? The opener isn't worth squat! The letter admonishes us NOT to keep our garage door openers in the car. Yeah, right. I'm going to keep my in that drawer that I never use in the fridge. Be quite handy there.
Then it goes on to say "Additionally, in the last few weeks and as recent as three (3) last evening ! several buildings have experienced break-in from "cat burglars". These individuals are scaling the exterior wall of a building and gaining access via open or unlocked sliding glass doors on balcony’s and open or unlocked windows."
Ok, so lemme see if I've got this. A very agile person scales up the outside wall of my building and comes into my condo... Then they what, load up the hand truck they brought up with them and carry off all my worldly posessions? Or do they just take the cats?

Here's what they will need to scale to get in here. I'd say that if someone wants me and my stuff that badly, then come on. Really. Just come on up.
I think I've heard just about one alert too many in the past year. I'm ready for whatever there is out there. No alert is going to save my sorry ass so just shut up.
Other than that, I have no opinion on the subject.
