The rest of the day

susandennisWe actually managed to accomplish somethings today. Mom sat here in the den while I went through 2 and a half file drawers of shit. I found the mortgage documents for the house they bought in 1953 in Kansas City, Missouri. Then the ones for the house they bought in 1955 in Winston-Salem, NC and a couple of more houses after that. Pretty funny to see some of the prices - the interest rates mostly looked like they do today.
Then I found a file marked 'correspondence, 1973'. It was carbon copies of personal letters that Daddy had written and his secretary at work had typed. They were congratulations and sympathy and support of various kinds. Interesting.
I tossed it all with Mom's blessing. I kept out a few gems that I thought my bother and sister might want. But, mainly I was looking to empty 2 drawers and a file safe and I did a good job. Mom was thrilled.
I met with the resident liaison here and talked about Mom and what we can expect and who makes decisions when, etc. I had copies of the new Powers of Attorney, Health POA, living will, donor card, etc. for her to keep on file.
She gave me all good answers and I learned some inside skippy. They love Mom but they really don't like Mom's best friend. I was afraid of this and wanted to make sure that Mom wasn't getting painted with the same brush. She's not. Mom's best friend is a real negative whiner (who, gratefully, isn't here this week).
Anyway, it was a good conversation. She knows who I am and that I care and that if they mess with my Mom they are going to have to answer to me and that ain't going to be fun. So all is well.
Oh and we straightened out her Bank of America Visa card. And got the info to get to it online.
Like I said... a good day.
Tomorrow is lunch with the two women who handle her $$. They are nice and fun and scared of me. I shouldn't be so intimidating but I have to admit that it does get results. These two are really sweet - I will be kind, I promise.
