Historic Reflections...

jwg talked about August 9, 1974 as being Count the Silverware Day because that's the day that Nixon resigned. After I finished laughing, I got to thinking about the Spring and Summer of the Watergate Hearings. It was an amazing few months. My friends and I were out of college and working and no longer marching on Washington and feeling pretty guilty about that. But we were glued to the TV and the hearings.
This was pre-CNN - actually most of the country didn't have cable, we certainly didn't. The 3 networks at the time rotated coverage (can you imagine that today???) and PBS aired the tape of that day every night.
It was an amazing time... And, frankly by the time August 9 came around, I would have gladly given up some of that silverware just to make sure that turkey was out. But, we wasted most of the joy of victory by being pissed at the pardon. Oh well.
