My Mom the Movie Star
Dec. 17th, 2002 03:28 pmWay before Thanksgiving, some movie folks came to Mom's retirement place looking for extras. My Mom signed up. They were set to go before Thanksgiving but it got cancelled. Then they were supposed to go the week of Thanksgiving - again... called off. Then they said they would shoot today - they said this yesterday and told everyone to be at the front door at 6 a.m. Mom was really hoping they would call it off again. But, apparently they didn't. Here's her report [brackets are mine]:
It was completely fascinating. James [Gardner] was there most of the day. Gena [Rowlands] was there 1/2 of the day and John Cassavettes [director] said I was very funny. It wasn't a funny scene, however. But he came over to me and said it was the funniest thing he had ever seen. We were using barbells - little hand ones. We did the scene once and then on the second take he told me to not been in rythmn with the other people doing it. I told him afterwards I wanted to be a sitdown comedian. (I was in a wheel chair). But it was a fascinating day and my skirt is already off as are my shoes and panty hose. Maybe more later.
I'm so glad she had fun. What a kick it would be if she didn't end up on the cutting room floor but actually got into the movie!
