I seem to bitch about work a lot so here's an anti-bitch. One of the very cool things my company does is Friday lunches. The software engineers buy free lunch - usually pizza but sometimes burritos and sometimes other stuff - and then usually they have a little information session to explain something they are working on. Since I'm in the marketing and sales group, I never get in on the cool stuff that the engineers are doing so this is great. We can ask questions and learn cool stuff. It's a real crowd pleaser.
We recently launched notification prefrences for Northwest Airlines. If you are a World Perks member, you can go to their website and sign up to be notified by phone, email, wireless, whatever if your flight is delayed, cancelled or changed in any way. Our company did the web interface, the code behind it and does all of the notifications. It's quite slick. We have done their notifications for a long time but this is the first time that they have given their customers so many choices. In three weeks they have had more than 50,000 people sign up. They are happy. We are happy. And the burritos were delicious.
Now it is the weekend. Yahooo! I am off to Target. I need 409 and some cheap black pants. I am going to try not to buy anything else, but I make no promises.
OH and I just got word from my party planner that all of the limo problems are solved. Mom's birthday party is going to be perfect. I just sent her a note reminding her that this is the very last day she can say that she is almost 80 years old.
