My fancy Capresso coffee pot is dying. I love the pot but it is dying. It's one of those that drips right into a thermal pot. I just take the pot to work with me every morning. (The coffee a work sucks and I'm not even that picky.) When I was at the KMart fire sale a couple of weeks ago, I picked up a Black and Decker number to replace it. The Black and Decker one is also thermos. I paid $35. (I later checked and the same model is $54 at Amazon.)

I fired up the new one this weekend and I have to say that I really like the taste of the coffee better. So I put the Capresso away. I wanted to get a spare thermal pot for the B&D. I just like having a backup. I couldn't find a place to order one. So I called the parts replacement number listed on their website this morning.

I got a very nice guy. He said it would cost me $32.50 to buy a new carafe. I said 'wow... I could about buy a whole new coffee pot for that.' and I started to make noises like I was done with the conversation. He said 'Well, I don't want you to do that. What about if I knock $10 off? Would you buy it for $22.50 - and that includes packaging and shipping?"

I have to say that I was too stunned to think clearly. I said yes and ordered it without even asking for the knives or cutting board or whatever else he would have offered had I really dickered. You just don't expect guys who sell coffee pot parts to be negotiating like a yard sale moma!
