Why is it that people think I want to be included in their list of people to whom they mail stuff? I'm not talking about spammers here, I'm talking about real people. Unless I've specifically said 'please add me to your list' I do not ever expect to get any email from you unless it is address to only me. If you think I want to be on your list, why don't you ask me first?

Today I got two pieces of email from people I know. I actually don't know either of them very well and we're not constant corresponders by any stretch of the imagination.

Person A sent me this stupid questionaire that he thought was interesting. He does this - sends me crap - about once every couple of weeks. Finally today I sent him a note asking him as nicely as I could to just please leave me off the list. I got a whiney note back from him saying that he never shares email like that very often and he just thought I'd like it. I don't and if you'd followed the model of Person B, you would have saved us both some time and frustration.

Person B sent me a note saying that from time to time he comes across fun stuff and likes to share it and would I mind if he added me to his sharing list. I wrote back saying that I very much appreciated his asking first and thinking of me but no thank you.

Now... how come there are, according to my scientific count, a scillion people like Person A and one like Person B? And you know what? I do think that any email I receive that I did not request that is sent to me and, at the same time, to others I do not know... IS spam.

Thank you for your time. I now return you to your regular programming.
