Two Years Ago

susandennisTwo years ago at 11 a.m. on the second to last Wednesday of February, my little company laid off about half of the staff. I wasn't laid off but my boss was. The CEO called me into his office and told me how valuable and asked me to stay and help resurect the company. (A month later he went on in to rehab and two months later the company folded.)
The following week was Mardi Gras week and my neighborhood was big on celebrating. But that year it got way out of hand fast. For several nights we had riots. Finally on Tuesday night a guy was killed.
On my way to work that Wednesday (and keep in mind even then my commute was a half block) I passed windows broken and boarded up from the riots.
Then at 11 a.m. that Wednesday two years ago we had our big earthqake and we're still screwing around with those fixes - they are coming tomorrow to inspect my terrace once again for earthquake damage.
Two years ago. It was, obviously, an unforgettable Februrary.
