Mom's friend, Libba - the same one I have no patience with - just called. The only reason she called was to tell me how great Mom was doing. She says that Mom is better than she has been in a really really long time. She's been using one of those little seated scooters and it's really enabled her to do and go far better than before.

She had one last May that she had borrowed but it was big and hard to operate and she hated it. This time she borrowed a smaller one and it's the ticket. (When people die at this place they leave all kinds of stuff for the benefit of those who haven't gone yet... Consequently, the place has racked up a fair inventory of old people accessories that can be borrowed. It's a very cool thing.)

Anyway, please help me remember that Libba is a good thing and I need to exercise extreme patience with dealing with her and it will pay off. The good news is that while she will be there part of the time I am at Thanksgiving, she won't be there the whole time. Whew.

Oh and while I'm dispensing good news... We're in the 7th and so far the Mariners have risen above the ugly...

I'll help to remind you. How's this:

Think of Libba as "finding out how your Mom REALLY is", just in case your Mom either isn't thinking straight or a "not wanting to complain" mood. Plus, she's good company for your Mom and they get along well and seem to keep busy, and having a friend like Libba may contribute to her energy level and daily activities instead of being alone and sitting in her apartment all day.

(picturing your Mom tooling down the hall and into an elevator on that scooter, all dressed up and bejeweled for dinner) ;)

What a strange and somehow disturbing concept. There was a british tv series called Waiting for God about an old folks home. I guess we all get there some time. Anyway, the strange thing is the idea of these people leaving their gear after they go. It's like at the airport parking lot where they leave all the luggage carts when people have loaded stuff into their cars. I guess it is proof positive that you really can't take it with you.
