I slept like the dead last night. Wow... nothing like catching up!

This morning we had our first Tivo lesson and it was pretty funny. I was delighted to see that it was recording this morning. (For those non-Tivo people out there, when not specifically recording what you request, Tivo will guess what you might like based on your preferences and record those guesses.) I checked to see what it was recording and just about wet my pants when I saw it was recording MTV Cribs.

I had to explain what MTV was and then what a crib was. But, it got even funnier. This place where she lives uses one of the TV channels to air 'happenings', the menus from the various dining rooms, activities and stuff. They have commandeered MTV for that use. I guess they looked at all of the channels on cable and figured this group was least likely to bitch about not having MTV. So... Tivo was taping the dining room menus. Mom was thrilled!!! Generally it scrolls slowly but, apparently, one of THE big gripes here is that it's not slow enough. Now she can stop it and scroll back and forth. She fell in love with Tivo.

Then we added Inside Actors Studio - one of favorites - and I showed her the list of upcoming shows where she can actually see who is going to be on when and she about flipped out. Very satisfying. She cannot figure out what button does what but I think she's now got enough motivation to learn it all.

Her Tivo hardware is different than mine. This only matters in terms of the remote controls. I snapped a photo of hers so that when I get home and she references a button that is called something else on mine, I'll know what's she's talking about.

The Tivo lesson ate up the morning and I had a lunch date with a new friend. I'd never actually met this woman - Polly - but she helped me arrange Mom's 80th birthday. She has kind of a concierge business for old people. We had swapped a ton of email about the birthday and I was interested to meet her plus I know I'll be using her to help with Mom in the future. So I went to her house which was adorable and met her and her two really wonderful dogs. She turned out to be wonderful fun. Very sharp and very fun. I'm so delighted to have a new friend.

This afternoon was spent do more getting of the drugs and Walgreens straightened out - we made great progress. They are good - really good. And I bought Mom two new remote controls and reprogrammed them for the other tv's in the house which was trickier than it needed to be. But it is done. Whew.

Finally tonight we went to one of her favorite restaurants for dinner. Great food, great service. Good good good. Now she's in bed and I finally have time to read LJ, read baseball details (Mariner win - yahoo), and generally catch up on everything.

While I was standing at the pharmacy at Walgreens waiting for them to do something, I spied the Senior Citizens' discount club flyer. Mom has told me all about this and how great it was - big savings yada yada. But I noticed as I was standing there that they offer the Senior Citizens' discount to anyone 55 and up??!!!!! WTF?! When did 55 get to be senior citizen???? [livejournal.com profile] lordjim did you know this?????!!! Is it related to my close personal friend, Anonymous? Wild. Later.
