The last time I got my prescription changed, it was a major festuche. I went to this place because my insurance recommended it. No parking. And a zillion departments. You went to the front desk and they sent you to one guy who checked you for one thing and then another guy who checked you for another thing and then the contact lens lady who made you come back every other day for three weeks it seemed like. And, it turns out, they were so expensive that the insurance covered a teensy percentage.
Today it was off to Sears Optical. Plenty of parking. 'We'll match any price' (And they did with a discount.) And they were great fun people. The person who checked my eyes was really nice and efficient and answered my questions with good humor and grace and a lot of practicality.
I wear one contact lens. If I don't have it in, reading in bed or something, I wear dime store glasses- whatever is on sale. I have a gazillion pairs because those suckers love to run off to another room and hide.
Anyway, I told her that sometimes, to read really small lettering, I had to take my contact out and put on the dimestore glasses. She said that I might still have to do that but 'why don't you take one of those pair of glasses and just pop out the lens on the contact lens side? then you won't have to take your contact out.' Duh.
And the whole thing was way cheaper. $160 for exam, a bag full of free eyedrops and stuff and a years supply of lenses. Really nice people and lots of parking. I'm happy.
And I did poke the lense out of one of the pair of glasses and it works great. I cannot believe I didn't think of that.
