Years ago now.... Well, actually in 1995 I was working on my own building websites for clients. This was not a big business. Websites were called "home pages" by most businesses and few people had internet access to see them anyway. Netscape 2 was brand new and IE had just been launched. It was the early days.

I had one big client - a nice couple of guys with a fun idea that was ahead of its time but that didn't stop them. They wanted to build a multiple listing service for commercial real estate. Their first idea was to put it onto a CD. They hired me to design the look and feel. I suggested we blow off the CD thing and go for the internet.

I worked for them full time and part time for nearly 3 years. They never had much money. They paid me in cash but also in stock. Finally they couldn't afford to give me enough work and I was kind of running low on skills as browsers got more serious so I went to work at Microsoft and left them to find someone new.

When I left they owed me $3,000 in cash. John (the head guy) gave me a note, due with interest in 3 years. That was 1998. In 2001, John said he didn't have the money to pay off the note at that time but hope to in a year. The debt has always bugged me.

They are still going strong - actually, now, it looks like stronger than ever. As a stock holder, I get notices of annual meetings. Today I got an email about the annoual meeting to be held in their new offices (in one of the nicest, newest buildings in town). The note invited me to park in the building's garage and promised to pay for my parking and serve me lunch.

Now if they can pay for parking and serve lunch and work in a fancy office building can't they pay me my $3,000???!!!!!

So I sent him a note and nicely asked for a status on the debt. Yeah I could take him to small claims court but I really just want him to be a nice guy and pay up. Plus, I want the $$!

I think that's the way I would have liked to handle it. wouldn't it be nice to have someone owe me $$ no, wouldn't it be nicer to have someone pay me money they owed me... I would first need to work on the first senario first...

Peace

well, i think you're right to try it the nice way first... btw, how much has your stock appreciated since those early days?

[btw2, i remember the days of netscape 1 and no ie... i remember when amazon.com was a gray page with black text and a couple of graphics all aligned to the left with no wraparound text! :D ... i may have been one of their very first customers... :P ]

The note was nice. I would next just send and invoice and see if they pay it. People are inclined to treat paper more seriously than before. I would also add interest.

And if that stuff doesn't work, then you can call in the leg-breakers!

I just got so angry at this guy and I don't even know him!

You are a good person. I would of taken them to court.

Got to love these folks who live high but DON'T PAY.

May I say fuck-chop?

Thanks, Susan. I know you know only too well how it feels. I have spoken about you to my parents and husband. You have the right idea of a) getting back into the saddle by getting another cat and b) staggering the ages of your cats.

We must be getting better because at first it was NEVER AGAIN but last night we spoke about what we might do as far as getting more. After poor old creaky bones Gigi goes though. She is so old, tired and hateful towards other cats I don't want to add to her misery.

hehe Garfield left too soon. I would of let him live inside. She did tolerate him. She is not eating, Susan. She wants to go. Part of me says GO and the other OH PLEASE STAY.

Time will make it better. The worry over Gigi is adding to the stress and sadness of the situation.

May I please request that we see MORE MORE MORE pics of your kitties. We love to look at them.

we had three llamas die within a couple of months and really put up a fight trying to keep the last one going... to picking him up and moving his legs for him so they wouldn't get stiff and going out every hour or so to check on him... we even put up a temporary shelter with tarps and hay bales near the house... then, I had to ask the neighbor to put him down for us because he was slipping away and wasn't in comfort... we went over a year before we missed having llamas in the pasture enough to get new ones... the ones we have now are very old and when one of them is lying where we wouldn't expect or acting differently or isn't agressively eating when we feed, we start to worry...

Peace
