Amazing what a night's sleep, some research and the cold light of day will do for technical problems. With info I got online, I had a list of troubleshooting tasks to go through. I made Mom pick the time and we started down the list. Slowly and carefully.

We were doing great - eliminating possibilities - when all of a sudden she says "wait! let me try something - I think I know what it is..." Then she asked Trey to 'flip that middle switch there on the wall to up.... no, no, the middle one... to the 'on' possition.'

Duh. All you TiVo owners out there... here's a tip. The damn thing won't work if ain't got no juice.

Before I could even suggest it, Trey had the tape out and was already making sure that no one ever flips that switch again.
