Pledge Drive
Oct. 15th, 2003 07:35 amThere is nothing like an NPR pledge drive to get me out of bed, out of the shower, dressed and out of the house in record time. God, I hate them.
For those of you who do not have the U.S. National Public Radio.... It operates mostly without commercial advertisements and gets revenue from cash gifts from listeners. It is considered a charity so if you give them money, it is likely your annual income tax bill is decreased.
So several times a year (sometimes it feels like 6 times a year) they interrupt their regular programming to beg for money. They are neither clever or gracious about it. These people upon whom I rely for my news and commentary, several times a year, turn into blathering idiots that make me want to run fast and far.
To add insult to injury, I had a friend who used to work in public radio and she said that, for the most part, the staff loves these pledge drives. They thing they are different and fun. The current drive is slated to run at least through the weekend. Here are my wrists... where's that damn razor?????
