Strange day and it's only 8 a.m.
Oct. 24th, 2003 08:16 amMy plan was to wake up at 6, read the paper with a cup of coffee and then go walk and try out my MP3-playing Treo.
I woke up at 5:15. I turned on the light and laid there a bit listening to NPR. The paper hadn't come yet and it was total pitch black out. The dust on the ceiling fan started to bug me. As well as the dust on the edge of the ledge over the closet. So I got up and got dusting stuff and cleaned it all up and put the dusting stuff away, got coffee and the paper and did that part.
Then I grabbed my earphones and my phone and set out. Got to the street to find out that the earphones won't work. Sound is coming out of the speaker. Earphones work with phone audio... hmmmm. Where is that stupid earbud that came with the thing? On my desk at work.
Back upstairs to get my card key... over to work. Grab earbud. Hit the streets, Plug it in. No diff. Earbud likes the phone audio but not the MP3 audio.
Back home and upstairs to get the old fashioned cassette player (yep, anyone with half a brain would have just hit the streets tuneless... I know. hindsight and all that shit). I got the cassette player and went back downstairs and out again.
I was two steps from the door when I remembered I'd forgotten the camera and at that instance also discovered I had forgotten the key to the front door of the building. Unless you are a card carrying thief, there is no way to get into the building without that key. I called my friends Sherry and Lee - Sherry takes Fridays off - to let me in. No answer phone. There wasn't anyone else I was sure wouldn't be pissed at an 8 am call. So I stood there at the front door and waited. And waited.
Don't these people go to work? Go get coffee and a paper? Walk the fucking dog?????? There are 108 units in this building - where in the hell are all the people....
Finally, dog walker. I'm in. I'm done. I may walk later but not now. I can read the signs. I don't need tea leaves. I'm staying put at least for a bit.
