I have been have serial good hair days recently. With little to no effort. It's heaven. And it will be particularly appreciated at Mom's.

I sit next to Kenny (1st generation Chinese) and on the other side of him is Matt (2nd generation Japanese). Matt is out of town this week and the newspaper this morning had an article about a potential new shortstop for the Mariners. From Japan. I told Kenny that I needed Matt to tell me the correct pronunciation of his name. Kenny says...
"Show me. Any Asian in a storm, you know."

Where was I went I got the news of JFK's assassination? I was in Latin language lab. I suck at all languages. I can barely hold my own in English. But, Latin was the worst. That day the 400 year old guy droning that crap into my ears stopped mid conjugated verb. Then the Latin teacher told us that the president had been shot and we were to go to the chapel. I'm sorry but my initial reaction was YES!!! Language lab had just started and I was 16 - all I saw was Freedom From Latin!

I read a snippet today about colleges having trouble providing dorms with enough electricity to manage all the technology that students bring with them. The article said that the average student brings 18 things that need to be plugged into an electrical outlet. Seems a bit steep for the average but that wasn't why it stopped me...
I entered college in 1967. I lived in a dorm that was not new. They told us before we got there that because they did not have enough electricity to the dorm we were restricted to two items that required plugging in. I remember thinking it was a pretty funny restriction since really what in the hell else did you need besides your hair dryer and your stereo (which, of course, was one box of both turntable and speakers)?
