Answer Annie!
Nov. 27th, 2003 12:32 pmOne of Mom's friends had us over to her apartment last night for dinks before dinner. This woman is really really nice and has done this before - had us over for drinks when I'm visiting. It's very sweet of her. There was me and Mom and 3 other 80+ ladies.
After the required chit chat the hostess turns to me and says: "So can you tell me what a DVD is?"
It's like explaining TV to someone who has never had electricity. But, I got through it and the floodgates opened...
"Is VHS like a videotape?" "What's TiVo?" "What's digital mean?" "What's MP music?"
It was pretty funny. And fun to try and flatten out the concepts so they could all get it. I also showed and demonstrated my Treo. They were very impressed.
The hostess has two sons about my age. She made my write down the name Treo600 so she could tell them, today at Thanksgiving, that she knew someone who had one.
This morning Mom says "So what does an editor do? Is that different than a publisher? And why do authors always thank editors and never publishers?"
I am a font of knowledge. The font's Mom is about dressed and off we go to Magnolias for Thanksgiving dinner. Mom will get turkey and I will get something wonderful.
Happy T-Day everyone!
