Back in the swing
Oct. 13th, 2003 09:00 amWell my rut got ripped this weekend. Geesh. For someone who is as much a Routine Rita as I am, this has been a wild four days. I walked my friend over to the bus this morning ($1.25 and 20 minutes, one stop and she's gone from my house to the airport terminal luggage level - you gotta love that).
We had a much better time that I expected we would. I expected to have to hear all about her divorce and what a scumbag her soon (?) to be ex-husband is, yadda yadda but I was wrong. I heard a little of that. But she was careful not to bleed too much and I really appreciated it. She's had kind of a checkered career life but a year and a half ago went into residential real estate sales. Last month she was the top performer in her company (which includes about 65 sales people over Northern Virginia.) So she knows she's not going to be a bag lady and is happy and optimistic and proud of herself and that is good.
We shopped and dined and worked on a project for work. And chatted and visited and just had a nice time. She is a dog person and Betty may have 'turned' her. Betty velcro'd herself to her and did her best to convince her that cats are wonderful. She was fairly successful. It was pretty funny. This morning, my friend said 'you know kitty kisses are a bit different than doggie kisses, aren't they?' oh yeah.
Thanks to
idajo we found a new favorite restaurant of all times. It feels like it is way way way far from my house but we clocked it coming home last night and it's only 10.5 miles. It's called Mr. Bill's and advertises 50's Style dining. Chicken fried steak, etc. It was wonderful.
My friend is a confirmed chain smoker. I was a little worried that it would be hard to be around her without wanting a cigarette. It wasn't at all but gosh those things stink. My car is stinky and my house is stinky. Both stinks will go away but for right now, both remind me how glad I'm not stinking them up myself any more.
I have a boatload of stuff to do at work today so I'd better quit pissing around and at least make a list of what to put off a little longer first.
I'm glad to be back in the saddle again...

How cute that Betty is so hospitable to company!
Well, whenever you are back into your routine, Rita......I need a Netflix update. Time to order a few, and your recommendations are also right on target.

I'm really tickled that you enjoyed Mr. Bill's! If there's such a thing as a "hang-out" when you're 54 years old, Mr. Bill's is mine! I realize hanging out is easier when it's three miles from home but I have friends from all over the Puget Sound area who regularly make the drive! Must have something to do with the ease of reading the *compact* menu and the small but select number of menu choices!
