Smilie Mania
Dec. 19th, 2003 07:00 amWatching TechTV last night, I saw a review of Smiley Central - a cute little trick for email smilies and decorations. I read the user agreement carefully and installed it on my machine and ran some spyware catchers against it and it looks like it is just what it proports to be - a fun toy for decorating emails. (And yes, they monitor and yes they use cookies, yadda yadda - none of that, I don't believe, is going to ruin the fun.)
Mainly I did this for Mom. She loves putting little things into her email. One little animated gif can tickle her for hours and this thing has 40 kazillion. I installed it on her machine. I sent her a note explaining that if she didn't like it (it adds a tool bar to the Outlook Express note creation screen), it was easy to get rid of. I told her where to click and said that if she wanted we could do a little walk through on the phone today.
This morning I got up to pile of notes from Mom. The first one says she saw the toolbar before she saw my note - and it had the first smilie attached.
The next note said that she thought she was getting the hang of it (her name is Virginia)
. That was followed by one saying that she had a nail appointment at 10 and if she was late it was my fault...
. And, finally, a note that simply said:
.
She's been pretty crabby recently and it's fun to see the fun Mom come out again.
