It was about 6:45 when I finished reading the newspaper this morning and thought about what to do next and then I realized that if I hustled my huge ass, I could do the test bus run in real time! So I hustled my huge ass. And here's the fascinating blow by blow...

I got to the bus stop at 7:02 and my bus arrived just as I did! It's a commuter bus and not a city bus. This means tall backs on the fabric cushioned seats and foot rests. This is good. I settled in and checked my email (Treo) and sent a note to Mom to tell her what I was up to. I spent the rest of the trip looking out the window, playing on Treo and just generally amusing myself. We got to my stop at 7:40 which is perfect for the 8 a.m. start time I will have for the next two weeks.

The stop is about two long blocks from my building. Which is quite lucky. The Microsoft campus has a gazillion buildings spread out all over the place. There are only about 5 of those buildings within easy walking distance of where that bus stops so I am very very lucky.

But, I didn't get off at that stop. It was raining hard and the windows in the bus were all fogged up and I couldn't tell if that was it. My reading of the bus map said that it was not. So I went on to the next one and got off. Wrong. BUT that's why one does a test run, is it not???

I walked back to the Microsoft campus and the return bus stop. It was pouring rain. I had my trusty poncho but I still managed to get pretty wet. I had about a 10 minute wait for the return bus and discovered to my delight that the return trip goes right through town. So if I wanted to stop off and do something - shop or walk or whatever - it would be perfect - a nice trot through town, downhill, to home.

AND the stop that is closest to home is just across the street from the Japanese grocery where I could pop in and get bread, milk, whatever or dinner!

This is good. Very good. $4.00 round trip. The schedule is kind of hinky in the afternoon so that may be the wrinkle but maybe not.

One thing I do know is that the poncho/bus combo is not good. It's definitely an umbrella situation... I need to get one of those that folds down small enough to fit into your fist.

Now I need to dry out and fritter away the rest of the day.
