I am such an alone body...

This morning was the St. Patrick's Day Dash. My friends, Lee and Sherry, have done it a couple of times. Sherry runs and Lee walks. It's a pretty big deal - something like 15,000 participants. But, you know what? Walking is not all that enhanced by doing it with 14,999 other people.

The deal was we get the bus here by the stadium and it takes us over to the start which is at Seattle Center. Lee said the last bus was to leave at 8:15. I said great - you guys just pop on by here when you are on your way out... I'll be waiting. I was ready to roll by 7:30. By 8 a.m. I had caught up on email, caught up on LJ, emptied the dishwasher and wondered where in the hell they were... They showed up at 8:30. Lee mentioned something about Lesbian time...

The first thing we saw was the huge queue for the bus. This is 15 minutes after the last bus was to have left and there were still about 20 bus loads full of people in line. We finally got to the starting area about 9. Our group - the walkers were supposed to start at 9:15. We ended up starting with the slow runners because we were just bored with standing around. We left at 9:40.

Once we got going it was kind of interesting. The route was on streets and roads that provide no access to pedestrians. We walked through this long tunnel and then onto the elevated highway. It was really pretty cool. 3.5 miles of walking and about as many hours of waiting...

I think next time I'll just wave to the line of people waiting for the bus when I walk by on my own. I am just not a group person.
