So I got on the backup server kick this morning and found a good one and then decided to get another domain name for it and spent (since I was supposed to be working, that verb would be more accurately: wasted) a lot of time monkey-ing around with it. It's always fun to see what different hosting companies do and how they do it. I got 300 MB's (and a bunch of other stuff) for $18.50 a quarter. Not too bad.

On Saturday my errands took me very near the shop of my neighbor. Now, I've known this lady - Ann - for 10 years. She lives down the hall from me. I've always known that she and her husband had 'a little shop in Ballard'. (For all of you non-Seattle types, Ballard is a neighborhood of Sweedish and Danish and other Norsk-ish folks. It's a cute place but not known for cutting edge retail. Although, now that I think about it, the first computer store in town was in Ballard - long gone now. But, I digress...)

Anyway, I had visions of her'shop' being a small place that sells carved vikings or something. So anyway, I figured on Saturday I'd pop my head in and say hi.

Not a carved viking in the joint. It's about 4,000 square feet of absolutely fabulous clothes, shoes, purses, jewlery, and some etc. It's wonderful. I was so pissed that she had been sitting on this jewel for 10 years without telling me!!! So, basically, it cost me $150 to say hi. I bought a pair of pants, 2 tops and a purse. (And, her prices are excellent.)

I put the pants on at 6 a.m. this morning and they not only look nice, they feel wonderful. My ass thinks it's in heaven. So as soon as the shop opened I called her and told her I wanted a pair for every weekday. We talked colors - selected 4 different ones and she's bringing them by tonight!

I would have saved a whole lot of money if she had had those damned carved vikings.

I'm confused. Do you need this storage to be on-line and somehow live? If it is not publicly accessible, then why not just use 3 zip disks or half a CD-R? There must be a requirement not obvious to me....

Ah, of course. I forgot about all your pics. Makes sense: local zip disks are so inaccessible!

Lucky you! Out of 5 zip drives I had at home and at work, 2 were click-of-death drives. So I now no longer buy anything from Iomega. But since I still have a couple of working drives and lots of old zip disks, I use them for quick backups of files. Without really trusting them! :-)

CD-R and CD_RW are my new directions.
