The happenings...
May. 28th, 2004 03:58 pmGeneral Tso's chicken is in the house! "Any time you want, I make for you." One cannot hear those words too often. The guy wasn't there, but the wonderful woman who always giggles at me was and she did not save me a General Tso's from lunch... She made me a fresh one!!! It's on the counter. I'm going to wait until the ballgame starts at 4. Gotta have something good to look forward to at that time!

Today in the snail mail I get a notice from the credit union... It's telling me that the check I sent last Saturday was received at 11 a.m. on Wednesday and put on a 2 day 'local hold'. It looks like they actually released $100 of it on Wednesday and the rest today. This is a bit different (and a little better) than the email info I got yesterday. Not great. But better. Would be nice if the snail mail people and the email people all had the same hymnal.

Also in the mail is a notice that my car tab needs to be renewed. I love Washington State. They crack me up. You don't get a new license plate. You get a new year sticker that they call a tab. My annual renewal used to be about $500. Then they passed a law limiting the amount to $30. Then they tacked on taxes. So now my tab costs $30 plus $.75 Plate Technology Fee plus $3.00 filing fee plus $117.00 monorail tax plus $25.00 transit tax.... $175.75 total.
And, for the first time since I bought the car in 1999, I have to have an emissions inspection. I went online to make sure the old emission station is where it used to be and now they list the stations and tell how how long the current wait time is! I think that's very funky. I have to have all this done by the end of July.

The chuckle du jour is from Mom (of course). Mom has never been very good about differentiating parts of her computer and/or software. She pretty much calls the monitor her computer. She forgets there is another piece to it down under the desk. So if I need her to do a hard reboot, I have to remember to tell her to turn off the 'kick box' because otherwise she'll turn off the monitor only.
But, software has always been a stumper until recently. She now pretty much 'gets' that she has an email program, a browser, a desktop, etc. That was slow in coming but she's got it now.
Yesterday, her friend Libba, was having computer problems and asked for Mom's help. The first report I got said
"She won't do it the way I told her to so no wonder she's having problems. She says her computer is broken but really she just can't get her email. She doesn't know the computer does anything else."
This morning she reported
"Libba's computer problems are fixed. She finally rebooted after I told her to a hundred times."
You know, if Mom ever needs a job, she might be good IT support fodder...
