I wasn't always this way
Jun. 21st, 2004 12:21 pmFor 21 of my 55 years I lived in various towns in North and South Carolina. Of those 21 years, 17 were spent living in homes that had no air conditioning. None. Zero. And this was not the moutains of North and South Carolina - no siree. These were hotassed places for many many months out of the year. And I'm talking hot. Weeks and months on end when it was too hot to change your mind. Too hot to read a book. I was younger. The last time I lived there was 1986.
While I never liked the heat, I cannot now imagine how I survived it. I did then. I can barely survive the thought of it now.
