Management Feedback
Oct. 30th, 2003 03:48 pmI had lunch with my manager today and suggested that she'd be smart to fire me. She said no. She allowed as how next year is going to be one direct mail campaign after another and I allowed as how that idea makes me want to slash my wrists. The reality will bring out the hardware.
I told her that she really needs to find someone who loves that stuff and is good at it and wants to do it - along with the data entry and list management and the other ancillary crap that goes with it.
Then she said that it is likely she will hire another body and what is it that I want to do? I explained that the problem was - the stuff I want to do is the stuff I am not that smart about. I love the web stuff and the server management stuff and the graphics and creating and replicating the look and feel of stuff. And, sadly, I know squat about server management and very little about graphics and have no artistic taste or talent.
She wasn't buying. She said that I do best at those things that I don't know how to do. (I'm not entirely sure I've noodled that one out completely yet.)
She also said that I had a solid reputation for getting it done totally, absolutely correctly. I like that. I like that a lot. If I'm going to be known for something (other than raving maniac stone cold bitch), I'm perfectly happy with competent.
