So I hopped onto Mom's computer today to make sure my sister and her children hadn't screwed up anything. Sure enough they had installed some kind of shit that threw a ton of icons on the website and put a toolbar on the browser and did lordknowswhat to the system.

So I deleted all the icons, went into the control panel and deleted all the programs they installed and cleaned up the browser. Then I pulled up Norton's and started a full scan. I had the VPN window open so I could monitor...

It was about half done when my sister just clicked on Exit! Sure, why not... couldn't be that the SCAN IN PROGRESS sign might mean anything and that she's smart enough about computers to even know whether interrupting it could cause a problem or not. But, heck, it's not her computer so why the fuck should she care????

She proceeded to open up about 4 IE windows - she'd type in a URL - incorrectly and get a Page Not Found and then leave that window open and open another one and try again... That was pretty funny to watch. She tried to get into her own email via Squirrel Mail but, apparently couldn't get her password or something right. Then she tried to find Yahoo mail but that one eluded her.

Finally she went to Mom's Outlook Express and just used Mom's email - not bothering to change the signature or explain it. I watched her type the note - two lines of fawning over the recipient - two lines of update (we're having a great time) and two lines of asking a favor (I lost the number you gave me - please could you send it to this email address???)...

Man, I could so fuck with her... And I have no qualms about doing it... But, she's so clueless it wouldn't even be that much fun. I'm now scanning again...
