A little digging revealed that the plans to move our offices out of my neighborhood are simply in the 'thinking about it' stage. Best guess is that packing up the boxes is about a year off. I can live with that.

Meanwhile I did do some beginning research on businesses in the neighborhood. I did two buildings (out of about 20 possibles) and turned up some interesting stuff. Out of the 25 listings spread on the two buildings, there are about 10 that I'd consider possibles. Out of those there are 2 game companies (one computer and one old-fashioned board games in a box), 1 refrigerator computer company, about 6 software/services/technology companies and a PR/Ad firm.

I do have an interesting neighborhood. I think I'll probably go ahead and finish up the research anyway and I might just go ahead and send out a few resumes..

Oh and an email I got this morning gave me the appropriate door to apologize for my stupidity yesterday. I sent the apology to the one guy who stood to be most offended and who is really a good guy who didn't deserve it. I got a gracious acceptance email in return. Still not good. Still a black mark on my otherwise fairly dirty reputation. But, I think it has moved beyond the wrist slashing necessity.

Whew on the e-mail debacle.

What about the Jigsaw Puzzle place that you mentioned a while back. Is it still in your building? Can't help but think what a fun job
that would be!

You could be the Photo Acquisition person. With the smorgasbord of great LJ posters pics, the Game Company upstairs would be fascinated and enthralled at your abundance of potential jigsaws.

Glad you like my user pic. It's all 3 of "my boys"...bunched up at my kitchen back door leading to the balcony/porch. If it's warm, I prop the door open and they sun themselves out there. I have to keep a close watch though as I only have a baby gate propped up against a chair blocking the open end of the porch. I've caught the cats on more than one occasion, slipping down the steps and panicked seeing Alex (my indoor cat) down at the bottom of the steps. He's got claws, but he's completely disoriented outside, and I live on a busy street. Chester never goes further than the back yard, and can go up and down since he lived out there for 10 years.

I really have to figure a way how to latch that baby gate.

Best guess is that packing up the boxes is about a year off.

Or might not happen at all. In the early 90s I worked at a place in Cambridge that was a 15-minute walk from home. As the end of their 5-year lease approached there started to be rumblings about moving to somewhere cheaper, which meant out in the suburbs somewhere (Burlington or Waltham or somewhere unappealing like that). While some of the suburb-dwellers were pleased, there was much fear and loathing on the part of us urbanites who really didn't want to drive to work.

In the end they decided that the lost productivity and disruption that would result from moving wasn't worth it. I think they also managed to use the threat of moving to get a better deal from the Cambridge landlord.
