Today So Far

susandennisAs always... My day starts with my Mom call. Today she's fine. Full of piss and vinegar as she used to say. Since she is so very very seldom whiney about anything, when she complains it's nearly passive aggressive. Today it was that she hasn't seen the doctor in weeks (Dr. was there on Friday) and they promised her she'd be out of there in 1-2 weeks (actually it was 2-3 weeks and there were NO promises)... But, 'I'm happy here, really. It's fine." I think she really is happy. I think she just has nothing really to focus on and think about so she gets mentally creative.
Fortunately, the social worker and the charge nurse both read emails so I was able to outline some suggestions (be VERY clear - hold up fingers - 2 to 3 weeks - and give her a list of things she can do and benchmarks she can watch for...)
We'll see. I think it's all fine.
My financial advisor came to see me today. He wants to me to invest in Austrian and Belgian Index Funds. He's so cute. He thinks that I really understand stuff when he explains it to me. After a dozen years now, I almost get dollar cost averaging but that's about it. But he still tries.
He's with American Express and while I love him to bits, I'm not fond of his company. But it's a package deal. However, this morning he also suggested that I consider putting some of my savings into stocks. Actually, I think he was trying to make sure the conversation could end up in his "I told you so" about my Krispy Kreme investment. (And, sadly, since that entry, my fortunes have plummeted. Those same stocks closed out at a total of $1,322.80 yesterday.)
We talked about some possibilities - Target, Staples, Sirius, Hormel - these are my short list of ones to look into.... He offered to do the research but told me to do the actual purchase through my Ameritrade account because it would be way cheaper. He's such a good guy. Anyone got any hot stock tips?
