Bits and nits and stuff
Sep. 14th, 2004 10:11 amI finally got back on to Mom's computer today. Her apartment lost power and cable during Charley - several hurricanes ago and Mom's computer never got back online because no one was there to push the button. I finally nagged Polly into calling me from Mom's den and walked her through a reboot. They changed Mom's IP address but once I figured that out, I was in like Flynn.
Years ago I stuck a teensy little bit of software onto her machine from FollowMeIP. It sends out the IP address every 5 mins. I log onto their website and can grab the IP. In Mom's case, it changes about once every 6 or 7 months. Usually, I use the site when I can't VNC into her machine to help determine if it's her machine or if it's Comcast. It's just one of those little services that really makes a huge difference. I realized today that while it is free, they do have a little 'donate' button on the website so they got a nice donation from a grateful daughter.
Not that it really matters because even Mom admitted today that she's not ready to move back into the apartment. I think we might be looking down the nose at a decision to move her into assisted living for good. When I talked to Polly she remarked about how swollen Mom's feet are. I knew she couldn't breath and she wasn't eating that well and they were still working with her blood thick/thinness but I hadn't heard about the feet. Man, she's running out of body parts to screw up.
My credit union account still does not reflect the money that Ameritrade says it got from it. Isn't this what they call kiting?
And my LJ entries are getting really redundant.
