Bang!

At 2 a.m. this morning, I was woken up by a very loud bang. 2 a.m. is also the time the bar that I can see clearly from my terrace (Tiki Bob's - a great place, I understand, to pick up chicks if you are 20 something and of the straight male persuasion). I got up and went out on the terrace to see what was happening. The parking lot was still fairly populated and there was lots of scrambling. An ambulance showed up fairly quickly and then a bunch of cop cars. And since I am pretty darned smart, I figured out it was a gun shot but wow was it ever loud. This morning I checked the Seattle 911 Dispatch and see that it was "Assault w/Weap 7 per Rule".

I walked today through the International District which is mostly Chinese and Japanese but lots of other mostly Asian cultures land there and make an interesting neighborhood.

Mom is fine. I'm calling her every morning still. I call between 6 and 6:30 my time which is the best time for her. But, lately she's taken to calling me in the afternoons. I'm hoping we can get back to our email life soon.

Polly called yesterday and said that she got all the big stuff moved into Mom's room. She unplugged the cable modem from the wall and the power strip where the rest of the computer stuff is plugged in from it's walled outlet and just rolled the whole thing to the new room.

And, she did about the same thing with the TV. She got a TV cart with wheels and shelf and had the guys take move the TV from the shelf to the cart. She says she left it all hooked together and only unhooked it from the wall at the cable/electrical and phone outlets.

With a little luck, once Comcast juices up her outlets she might just be back online with TIVO and the computer. Maybe. With a little luck.

I got the most delightful email this morning. It starts back in 1997 when I started taking regular pictures of the Kingdome from my terrace. For the first few years I took the same shot every Sunday morning at 9 a.m. Then in 1999, just before they were prepping for implosion, I took a picture every day and kept it up until the new stadium was up and and operational in August of 2002.

I posted these shots on my website everyday. I built up quite a following of folks who would check every day for the latest info. One of those folks was a Seahawks fan from Bradford, England. In January of 2001 he wrote that he was bringing his family to Seattle and did I have any recommendations for what they should see...

I gathered up all the local people who had sent me emails about my website (none of whom I had ever met) and had a party for Bob and his family. While I am fond of very few children, his kids captured me totally. Jessica was 11 and very cute and sweet and fun - and a good translator as her Mom's accent was so strong, I couldn't understand her and she couldn't understand me. Jessica was a good translator. Her brother, Joe, was a pistol and a half. He was 7 and just the most amazing kid I ever saw. And he loved Ichiro - so much so that we called him Ichijoe. He loves to draw and drew me several wonderful pictures while he was here (one is featured on the front page of my website).

Anyway, this little hop down memory lane really does have a point... This morning, out of the clear blue, I got an email from Jessica!! "Do you remember me?" She starts out... Oh yeah! I was so tickled. And so glad to hear from her. Her Dad is a great football fan but not a great email chit chatter. She says she's turning 15 in 13 days. Amazing. And such fun to hear from her.

Time now to get into the shower and get the laundry going and then get started on my Sunday of Slacking.
