ok, I'm in heaven
Oct. 18th, 2004 07:37 pmMy new toy has exceeded all my expectations and I've only had it for 3 hours. I can connect wirelessly (my own network or my neighbors). I can connect using my Treo - plug Treo into Lifebook click on the icon and boom... I'm on the internet. I can dial in using a telephone line.
I opted not to get the diskette drive because I couldn't see the point. I have USB thumb drives falling out my ass and I figured they would do everything a diskette will... Well, not quite. The machine comes with a program to build a bootable diskette should you need it. But the software knows my thumb drive ain't no diskette. Seems like I remember that it will boot off a CD - drive and I intend to get one of those.
The one I ordered with the machine is backordered. I think I'll pop over to Fry's this weekend and see what they have in the way of external drives - I'd love to find a cheap PCMCIA one that doesn't require power.
My toy is a Fujitsu Lifebook. It sounds like some kind of new age sushi. I'm not big on nicknaming my possessions (I flirted with Twila Twat when I was young but could just never carry it off). But I may have to fold on this one....
New Toy doesn't get it. Fujitsu makes my tongue itch. Lifebook? No. Lap top? My lap is so much bigger than this thing that it's hilarious. Notebook? Maybe. Sub notebook? Three ring binder you take on a boat that goes under water?
Maybe Mini. This would take care of my irrational desire for a Mini Cooper car. (irrational only because I never use the car I have - I sure don't need a new one)
I'm watching Boston try to beat the Yankees and once again, it appears to be a game that will never ever end. I keep looking for
rsc and
jwg in the crowd but I haven't seen them yet.
