I set Mom up with a new dialup ISP. When @home went under several years ago, I researched cheap ISPs and found ISPWest. They were so nice to deal with and so organzied. My brother was very impressed with their service and has, over the years, recommended it to lots of his friends all of whom have been delighted with the service.
So last night I called them to set Mom up. The very very nice guy I talked to found Mom's old account and offered up her old userid PLUS gave me a 'returning customer' discount. $9 a month on a month to month cancel any time deal. Nice. I set up her domain name so that her email address (the one on her own domain) now goes to the new account.
And it occurred to me that the modem I ordered for Mom should have gotten there long before now. She mentioned yesterday that she didn't know where to pick up her mail. And all of a sudden it dawned on me that the modem could be whothehellknows. I checked tracking and it was delivered Monday.
So when I called this morning my first question was 'did you get a box from Amazon last week?' Oh, yeah, it's sitting right here. whew.
Mom sounded so good this morning. Way more on top of things than she has been in a long time. She sounds so happy and thriving and so not stressed or worried. She's really turning into poster girl for assisted living. It is such a relief. It's been a long 3 months.
I am being a Saturday morning slug. I am proped up here in bed with my coffee. The newspaper has been read, Mom has been called, email checked and answered, LJ friends read.
I love this little new computer to pieces. Thank you,
fj for taking that picture of your desk!
But now it's time to get up and hit the road. I'm off to Fry's and maybe Wal-Mart. They are located in a small town south of here. That they are so inconvenient to get to has saved me enormous amounts of money. But today I plan to make donations at both places. Ikea is in the same town but I think I'm going to save it for another day.
