Hey Sprint guy... beat this!
Nov. 23rd, 2004 09:21 pmThe 'home' version of Can you hear me now? is What did she say? And it's best uttered with a muffled version - with disdain - of I wish she wouldn't mumble. It's the most fun when you are in the middle of two of them playing at the same time.
Here's Della Jo and Mom. They took out their oxygen things for the picture and I had to remind them to put them back in. When I showed the LCD camera screen to Della Jo she exclaimed "oh, you know it always shocks me to see that I have white hair!" I can relate. I'm usually surprised when I walk by a mirror to see how fat I've gotten. But, my hair's not white - thanks, L'Oreal.

The only other 'regular' at dinner tonight was Laura. Laura is 91 years old and gets around on her own steam very very well. She started losing her site earlier this year and it is now nearly gone. She has 4 cigarettes a day and 1/4th mini bottle of scotch in her room before she comes to dinner. She's a delight but for some reason Mom is not crazy about her.

Della Jo is seriously jealous that Laura can still have the occasional cigarette. So far she's made a crack about it at every meal.
Otherwise today was another adventure in fix it land. The computer took a serious dive and I don't know why but the TCP/IP thingie got corrupted and it took forever to figure out the problem and put the fix in. 3 BellSouth technicians - 1 great one, 1 ok one and 1 who must have been the control group. 1 Microsoft technician who was an asshole. But all is back fixed. I got rid of Norton's anti-virus which also got corrupted and installed the paid version of AVG.
Then it was on to the finances. Left over from Daddy's love of having a million pots to piss in, Mom has a little bit of money in a bunch of different places. I had previously rounded up all of the statements and today I got on the phone to each of them to cash out and close the accounts. It was a whole lot easier than I thought it would be. Mom and I had a real routine going - I call, explain what I want, hear that they can't talk to me without Mom's permission, hand Mom the phone, she does her bit, and I finish up. On to the next one. Lather, rinse, repeat. We got them all taken care of and for extra credit, I called Comcast to get them to fix the bill and they already had. Mom has a credit there of $28 against her next bill. I filled out 3 rebate coupons for her DSL line - assuming they all work, she'll also be getting back $150 from BellSouth.
Now I'm back at the hotel and have gotten pretty much caught up with my LJ read and my email and I think I'll do a little reading starting with the morning paper.
