Puzzle me this
Dec. 2nd, 2004 08:36 amI am chewing on a way to semi-automate my puzzle page updates. The method I use now is fine but just cumbersome enough to make me want to wait until next weekend to do updates.
And, I'm getting a pretty demanding audience of puzzle solvers. They want more puzzles and they want them now and they are sending the funniest emails. I got one last week about a notice at the cash register in a game shop in Florida - apparently there's a little sign there that says 'for free computer jigsaw puzzles, go to www.susandennis.com!'
Currently, here's what I do:
- I generate the exe from the photo.
- I resize the photo so that it fits within my 150x110 thumbnail box.
- I copy the thumbnail and the exe into their folders on the server.
- I redo the HTML to accommodate the new puzzles - linking the exe to the thumbnail.
I need to conjure on this. My current thought is creating a database for the puzzles and thumbnails that will hook them together and automagically create the pages maybe? Then I would just pop the stuff into the folders, and their locations into the database? I'm not sure I know how to do this which could be a bit of a showstopper.
