Pothos friendship

susandennisI can grow plants if I work at it but I am lazy. So my house is full of pothos. They are all children of the only plant I took when I moved out of my husband's house more than 20 years ago. (They don't have the dorky bark thingie like the one below, though.)
The beauty of pothos is that you cannot kill it. If it's leaves start drying out and it looks like it's ready for the plant cemetery, you just add water and wait and tomorrow, it will spring back to life happy as happy can be.
Last night I discovered that my friendship with Kieran is just like pothos. It had been a really long time since we'd seen each other and the last few times were in large groups anyway. I entered his house and got a hug and the friendship sprang back to life happy as happy can be.
I was kind of anxious between not seeing him for a while and meeting his New Man. I have a tendency not to like my friend's boyfriends a lot of times and it's never good when that happens. But Alan is wonderful. He's really cute and so very nice and fun and quick and a wonderful compliment to Kieran.
We had just the nicest evening. Kieran was the first person I ever met who is a career contractor. He will only do contracting jobs. He credits me with introducing him to new interview techniques. He used to be really uncomfortable at job interviews and I taught him how to make them fun and profitable. He told me last night "I always hear your voice saying 'figure out what problem they need to solve and convince them you can solve it for them'."
But, now he's getting ready to take a break. They are going to Paris for a month week after next. I should hook them up with Jason. They have rented an apartment. Kieran has always been a wonderful traveler and apparently Alan is a good travel companion. Kieran speaks fluent French but Alan doesn't even get the Pen of my Aunt joke.
They are throwing their own bon voyage 'do' a week from Sunday. I'm going and plan to ribbon wrap a copy of People, a copy of Dwell and stickers with my address on them for post cards.
