I think I am going to go ahead and switch medical insurance. I can get it through the Microsoft Alumni Association. It seems like good coverage and relatively reasonably priced. I have to wait until February for coverage but that's ok. I have all the forms to fill out and can go ahead and do that now.

The guy in the office next to mine is very nice. He's new to this team. He and his officemate keep the blinds closed and the door shut so there's very little interaction. Every once in a while he comes out to ask me a question. It happened again today. I'm all for helping - glad to help - but, I explained to him, he's going to have to confine his questions to shit I know. It's the only way the game is going to work.

My Mom is such an optimist. She is the poster child for Half Glass Full Week. If there is the tiniest bright spot in an otherwise horrendous anything, she'll find that spot and fixate on it. In 56 years, I have seen her cry one time. She simply refuses to settle for anything but hope and happy and it's an absolute conscience choice which I'm sure still takes some work even after all these years of practice.

I do have to remember this when I ask how she is. I never know for sure if I'm getting a true report or if she's doing a 'spin' to help convine me and her. But, today she says she's doing better - the muscle spasms that had her confined to her chair with a heating pad for so long seem to be easing and she says the tremors in her hands are much calmer. But she could just be 'whistling a happy tune'. It's hard to tell.

I cannot get XP's remote desktop to work from work. I can 'remote desktop' from my laptop to my desktop when I'm at home on the same network. But crossing networks seems to be more than I can handle. I've been testing various means for future getting on to Mom's PC. GoToMyPC works but is very slow and has some kind of weird cookie-like problem. From here at work, it takes 4 tries to get in. And, after 3, they lock you out for 5 minutes. So, to get onto Mom's computer from here, I have to try 3 times, wait 5 minutes and then I can get on. Every.Single.Time. Way sucks. But, the funniest part is that I have now sent email about this 4 times - 2 different web forms and 2 different email addresses. Each time I have gotten exactly the same stock response - it's a paste of an FAQ off their website that does not come close to addressing the issue. And for this they want $20 a month?

Tonight's test will be VNC. That's what I've used for the past 3 years and it has worked great. Let's just hope my brother can get it back working again.
